I'm pleased to be part of another issue of Collective Hub magazine! This time in their January 2018 Productivity issue with Gigi Hadid as cover model, in an article about building a business to sell. Previously I was featured in the magazine in an article about handicap accessible websites.

I was recently interviewed by an AP business writer for an article about small businesses that offer caregiver leave although they're not required to legally.

As those who know us well know, this is a topic that's dear to my heart as my staff went above and beyond to support me when I was caring for my mother during the last years of Alzheimer's. That's her in the photo above with me and one of my sisters, 19 months before she passed.

When you're running a service-based business, keeping up with online marketing can be a big burden but staying on top of it makes for smooth sailing.

You have a business to run and, if you're like most people, you put off working on your business to work in your business – doing all the daily tasks that are required for it to run rather than working on it to improve operations and profitability.

What do the beach, mountains, and lake have in common?

I worked from all 3 in the same month this summer. And over the past 21+ years, I've worked from locations as far flung as Key West, Rome, and Nova Scotia.

I read an article recently that gave 3 reasons for businesses closing when the owner wants to retire:

  • internet competition,
  • lack of loyalty among younger customers,
  • and owners not being able to find a buyer.

All of these reasons come back to one uncomfortable truth:

My father was blind, which makes the topic of disabled access dear to my heart.

As a kid, I had to learn not to do things like leave things in the floor for him to trip on, so I'm naturally more aware of the ramifications of limited access and how much sighted people take for granted.
